Research Network Surfnet Selects Tinet For High-quality Ip Transit In The Netherlands

MILAN, ITALY & UTRECHT, THE NETHERLANDS – July 7, 2009 – Tinet, formerly the carrier arm of Tiscali Group, and the only global carrier exclusively committed to the IP/MPLS wholesale market, and SURFnet, a world leading national research and education network, announce that Tinet was selected, to deliver high-quality IP transit, including IPv4, IPv6, and Multicast, for a five-year term over a 10 Gbps port to SURFnet in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Following BELNET and HEAnet, SURFnet is the third research network to join Tinet, a clear indication of Tinet’s ability to deliver high quality, best-of-breed services within the IP data arena for the high-bandwidth research community.

“As SURFnet connects all major organizations for higher education and research in the Netherlands, it is vital that our network is able to deliver high quality and cutting-edge network services,” states Erik-Jan Bos, managing director of SURFnet. “Our 160 connected organizations require an always-on and congestion-free network performance. Tinet offers its high-performance network services across a solid backbone infrastructure, and with its extensive IPv6 backbone, Tinet is one of the few companies who is able to deliver the next generation of IP routed services over a robust and reliable network.”

“We are excited to be supporting the SURFnet network,” continues Paolo Susnik, CEO of Tinet. “SURFnet has a strong history of innovation, consistently delivering highly advanced networking solutions to universities, research institutions and academic hospitals throughout the Netherlands. Our companies share the same commitment to high customer service, focusing on delivering innovative and reliable network services.”
